S SGT William G. Balch served in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a gunner in Europe, Burma, India and China. He earned a Good Conduct Medal and an American Defense Service Medal, as well as an Air Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster. He owned an ice cream shop on Washington St. and raised a family in Canton, where his son, daughter, grandson, and great-grandson still live.
